Flip This Pattern - The Boardwalk Polo

It is time for Flip this Pattern again over at Frances Suzanne!  I had so much fun flipping the Hattie for their competition last year and I am thrilled to get to kick off this months flip of the Boardwalk Henley and Hoodie by Peek-a-boo Patterns!

The Boardwalk Henley is a cute unisex tee that also has a dress option for girls.  It has lots of flipping potential and I can't wait to see what the amazing four ladies competing this month do with it for their flips!

I did a little mini flip of the pattern to get things rolling, I added a collar to turn this Boardwalk Henley shirt into a Boardwalk Polo shirt!

I swiped the collar pattern piece from another Peek-a-boo pattern I own, the Classic Oxford.  The size 5 collar from the Oxford fits perfectly on the size 5 henley I made...and the finished shirt is a perfect fit on my size 5 four year old :)

The Boardwalk Henley is a really quick sew.  It has a yoked top, which not only makes it perfect for some fun color blocking, but also makes it really easy to add the buttons to the front, no tricky button plackets to sew!  I really like the slightly longer sleeves on this shirt and it has a shorter sleeve option for the little ladies and a long sleeve option too.

Perfect Ten Blog Tour

I have a new favorite girls tee pattern!  I have lots of t-shirt patterns that I really love, but they are all unisex patterns.  The Little Lizard King Perfect Ten shirt pattern is a top pattern just for girls and it has a perfectly adorable fit (and TONS of options)! I tested this pattern and am excited to be joining in on the pattern tour today!

The Perfect Ten is a pattern for a knit top.  It gets the "perfect ten" name because of the ten options it comes with (but really it is way more than 10).  The pattern has 5 different sleeve options and 5 different bodice options.  But, it also has 5 different sleeve lengths, 2 different hem options and 2 different neck binding options.  So with this one pattern you can mix and match the options to create over 400 different looks!  

For my top I picked the button tab sleeve and peter pan collar options.  And I went with the 3/4 length sleeves and the regular shirt hem and neck binding.  

I used some striped jersey knit and a red slub knit, both of which I got on clearance (woohoo!)  I love the sweet nautical look these fabrics gave the shirt!

Em insisted on having the dog pose with her... so meet out family dog :)  She is a really sweet girl, and really patient with Em.  I feel like it isn't easy being Em's dog, but she is really great at it!  Even with all the ear and tail pulling in our house,

Ballard Top

I am starting off my new year with some sewing for me!  This is the Ballard top by Straight Stitch Designs.

I seriously love this top!  It is my favorite thing I have sewn for myself recently and it has already been worn several times.  

The top has an option for an open back, but I did the closed back option...better for winter.

I made this top with some knit I found on the clearance rack at Joann's, It is pretty thin, but really soft.

Ansley Top

I got the chance to sew up the new Ansley top and dress pattern from Blaverry Patterns  and I am over at Pattern Revolution today sharing my version.

I had never sewn a pattern from Blaverry before, but I really love the designers style, she has some really cute stuff!  I was so excited to try one of her patterns out.  I really liked it! it is well written and the end result is cute, I will be sewing more Blaverry in the future for sure!

This pattern has tons of options, 2 lengths, 6 sleeves, several hem options, collars, cuffs...the possibilities are endless!  I sewed up the top version with short sleeves.  OK, actually I sewed up the dress version with 3/4 length sleeves and decided last minute to chop off the sleeves and the dress.  Ha! I can never make up my mind! 

I love the way this top turned out.  It is so cute with her skinnies, but would be cute with shorts too, or layered with long sleeves under it when it gets colder.

Mulberry Tunic

The Mulberry Tunic, by Olga of Kid Approved, is the fourth pattern that I had the opportunity to test for Willow & Co (you can see the other three here, here, and here) and just love this one!

 

Eeek!  Isn’t it adorable on her?!

 

This pattern is unisex too, so I need to get my act together and make one of A as well.  The pattern has an option for a hood, I think he *needs* one with a hood!

 

I sewed the shirt up in a size 18 months for Em.  Before I sewed the buttons on I thought it was going to be too big, but once I got the buttons all on and put it on her, it was just perfect! I love the looser fit.

 

I used some polka dot fabric from Riley Blake’s Sunny Happy Skies line (isn’t that an awesome name for a fabric line?)  I don’t think you can ever go wrong with polka dots and they are darling on this shirt.

 

The shirt has pockets in the side seams which Em was excited to find.  She is always looking of pockets in her clothing and is usually pretty upset if she doesn’t find any…this girl needs somewhere to store her rocks :)
