Upcycled old shirt = new kimono onsie

I pulled this old pink shirt out of a pile of stuff I have to take to the Goodwill.  The shirt is made of a good quality knit so I decided to make it into a kimono style onsie instead.  The light pink I used for the trim came from JoAnns.

These kimono style onsies are my favorite for tiny new babies, they are so easy to get on and off.

This was my first time sewing with knits.  I have read a ton about sewing knits but was always a bit scared to try it.   Well I have to admit, it really is as easy as everyone say it is!

I have a few other shirts I pulled from the pile so I think I will be making at least one more of these!

  1. I was wondering if you could tell me which pattern you are using for this onesie? I found an excellent onesie pattern here at http://schnabelina.blogspot.de/p/regenbogenbody-365.html (it's in German) and she even has video tutorials for certain modifications, but none for converting the pattern to a kimono.....Thanks.
